The KÍÌLÚMÁYA Center

Lord Diplock in Bremer v. South India Shipping Corp, Ltd

“every civilized system of government requires that the State makes available to all its citizens, a means for the just and peaceful settlement of disputes between them.”

KÍÌLÚMÁYA Center is inspired by the ethos espoused in the ground breaking book titled “Things Fall Apart”. There, the tragic consequences of the failure to resolve basic human conflict is laid bare for all to see. The KÍÌLÚMÁYA Center is established “so that things don’t fall apart”. Literally, this translates as “the peace of the Society”.

In partnership with Edwards Mediation Academy, Kíìlúmáya Center provides the gold standard in mediation and conflict management training relevant to the Nigerian Audience

Mediation in Nigeria today is still at the budding stage. Access to justice is a basic principle of law the world over. Mediation is a key tool to relieving the backlog of cases on civil courts everywhere, including Nigeria. Mediation was formally introduced in Nigeria with the establishment of the Multi-Door Courthouse in Lagos though most traditional societies in Nigeria have had neutrals mediate conflicts for centuries.

To ensure the successful implementation of mediation in commercial disputes, it is essential that mediators develop the necessary skills to assist parties in finding solutions that meet their needs. This course will provide aspiring commercial mediators with the needed skills while enhancing the culture of mediation Nigeria.
